The leaves are starting to change, and fall to the ground. It is beautiful. The mountains look as if they have been quilted in reds, yellows, and browns. The air is chilly and the songs of summer are fading fast! I love the fall, but I will miss the beautiful coats of green on the trees I love to climb.

Giant Trees, where you be?

This past Sunday we took off on a small road trip. We drove to Joyce Killmer Memorial Forest to look at giant trees. We found a few after going around in circles for awhile. However we didnt see any Hobbits.

Turn Left Onto Unmarked Path With Knee High Grass

We started the weekend knowing where we were going. The trail guide was very vague. On Saturday as we ventured farther into the woods, the less sure some of us where about our location. Every once and awhile someone would ask how much farther or are we in the right spot, and we just started sayingit was Cold Mountain (even though it wasn’t) and we all knew it. However on Sunday we turned around and went back in the direction we came in and eventually ended back up at our cars.

This past weekend a group of Grieriets and hiked from Black Balsam Knob to Cold Mountain. Well we tried at least, we ended up going in the opposite direction of Cold Mountain. We had a good time! It was the first camping trip I’ve been on this summer where it didn’t rain! We ate lots of blackberries, and blueberries! No bears! I learned how to flip in my hammock! We did run out of water and never really knew where we were but we knew how to get back to the parking lot. So we were never really lost… right…?

“Week Seven” The AT

The week after camp ended a group of us spent a few days on the AppalachianTrail. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life! The Creeper or 19 switchbacks? Switchbacks but only because when we got up there, there was a small Christmas tree where we stopped and ate chocolate, and sang Christmas songs. After that it rained the whole time, and it was icy cold! We got lost. On the second day of the trip, Brian fractured his foot and he and Luke hitchhiked into town to get it fixed. After that, I led Jeff to the Shelter. We ran up the mountain. Even though there was a string of unfortunate events, this was the most exciting thing I did this summer!

Olden Busen

Every Week we went to the Presbyterian Church in Old Fort on a really really old green bus. This bus we call Olden Busen! Every Sunday all 30 of us would cram into this little bus and go to church. Every Sunday on our way back we would all sing (as loud as we could) the only song every single one of us knew,All Star by Smashmouth.

Week Six

Week Six was our last week at camp. JT was my co-counselor. It poured on our overnight but it was fun, we sang the Tarzan Song hiking all the way to our site! On Thursday rain canceled the all main camp swim, so instead we had a huge mud “fight” in the middle of main camp field! Lots of penguin dives and sliding!

Week Five

Week five, once again I was in Holly tending to the upset tummies, and scrapes of campers. This week was a ton of fun! Holly became the new hang out spot for some of the support staffers. We had stretchy-man wars, watched a lot of Star Wars, and ate lots of icecream! I spent a lot of time this week with Rustic Three, I was support staff for them on the Rock Slide, and overnight. I tromped through the woods on the overnight going after a Timber Rattler and made the BEST Tin Foil Dinners EVER!

Week Four

Week four… I was the first aid person in Holly. This was a difficult week for me but it had its humorous moments. I had several encounters with bees! Coming down from the Fire Tower, I got to watch Patrick jump like a monkey while running from a swarm of bees. The next day I was support staff for Michael and Lukes group going up to the fire tower. Coming down we ran into the same nest, as we were running away from it and a camper stoped over the nest, so as I was running I scooped him up and ran down the mountain. Now called ”scoop and run.”
